2012 holds two big challenges for me.
18th March I will be participating in the Maratona di Roma (Rome Marathon).
In June I will be running a Half Marathon in a game reserve in South Africa, but for now let’s focus on Rome.
Having recently retired, I had decided that from now on Half Marathons would be my limit. Shortly after announcing this at my retirement party, my son threw down the gauntlet of ‘just one more’ – his first Marathon, will be my last (probably!).
Having visited Rome recently, my son Chris decided it would be a great place to take his family. Chris has been in the RAF Regiment for 15 years and is currently based in Germany. One of his colleagues recently took part in the Cologne Half Marathon, after which Chris ‘jokingly’ suggested running a Marathon for charity. After a while browsing the internet, he realised that the Rome Marathon was taking place in March 2012. That ticked all of the boxes and then I received the call….
When it comes to a challenge (especially one from my son!), I have the breaking strain of a Kit-Kat!
Chris and two of his RAF Regiment colleagues will be raising money for the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA). If you are reading this, I know they would really appreciate your support.
